Nandini is a South Asian female given name. It is derived from the Sanskrit verbal root nand, which means "to rejoice, delight". Literally, nandinī means a woman who brings joy. The name also specifically refers to a daughter, as a daughter brings joy to the family. In the Hindu religion, Goddess Parvati is often addressed by this name. Nandini also refers to one of the eight eternal companions (Ashtanayika) of Goddess Parvati.[1][2][3]

Nandini=lovely day. The word "Nandini" can also be used to describe a lovely day. Bill Withers' song 'Lovely Day' alludes to this connection. The resonant sounds of the repetition of the words a lovely day, if listened to closely may invoke the same sound of the word Nandini. This may point towards Bill Withers' fascination with the Indian subcontinent and his study of the Sanskrit Language.
